Mission Statement
To support, preserve, and promote our public library system.
The Friends of the Pikes Peak Library District was established on the 50th anniversary of the Colorado Springs Public Library (March 11, 1955) and incorporated in 1969 as a nonprofit organization. The Friends is a constant advocate for the library.
Today, with over 200 members, the Friends sponsors and supports numerous programs and events to further the enjoyment of reading and love for books for all individuals. Programs include:
- Bookstores at the East Library and Penrose Library
- Bookcases sponsored by Branch Friends at the library branches
- Frank Waters Award for Excellence in Literature
- The Betty Field Memorial Youth Writing Contest
- Baby’s First Book program for newborns and their parents
- Carla Berney Computer Learning Lab, of the LitSource adult literacy program
- Friends of the Pikes Peak Library District Annual Membership Meeting
The Friends of the Pikes Peak Library District provides financial support to the library for:
- All Pikes Peak Reads (APPR)
- Old Colorado City Carnegie Library Campaign
- Holiday books for children
- Individual branch projects
